The information is already there.

The problem is that it is often fragmented, technical and difficult to interpret. MiCharco brings official water data, incidents, discharge records and ongoing coastal works together in one place, making it easier to understand what is happening along Tenerife’s coast.

How it works

Frequently asked questions

What is MiCharco?

MiCharco is an independent environmental transparency platform that brings together and explains the official information available about Tenerife's bathing zones: water measurements, classifications, incidents and registered discharges.

Where does the data come from?

All data comes from official sources, mainly the Government of the Canary Islands and the island's town councils. Every record links to the original source so you can verify it.

Does MiCharco test the water?

No. MiCharco does not carry out its own testing and does not replace official notices: it organises and contextualises information published by public administrations.

How should I interpret whether I can swim today?

A past sample does not describe today's water conditions. Always check the current official situation, on-site notices and external signals before entering the water.

What additional information does MiCharco show?

Besides official measurements, MiCharco shows recorded incidents, the official land-to-sea discharge census as context, and public actions related to sanitation and the coast.

How often is the data updated?

Data is refreshed regularly from the official sources. Each record shows the date of the latest available official sample and when the information was last updated in MiCharco.
