Solar power installation completed at the Adeje–Arona wastewater treatment plant

A photovoltaic self-consumption installation at the Adeje–Arona wastewater treatment plant was completed in May 2026. The project had an awarded value of approximately €442,980 and reduces the external electricity demand of the wastewater treatment infrastructure.

The installation supports wastewater treatment infrastructure but does not by itself imply a change in bathing water quality.

New five-year operation and investment programme for the Adeje–Arona wastewater system

The Tenerife Island Water Council awarded a five-year contract covering the operation, maintenance and conservation of the Adeje–Arona regional wastewater treatment and reclaimed water system, together with the planned investment and equipment required for the system.

This measure concerns regional wastewater infrastructure and does not by itself indicate current bathing water quality.

La Camella residents call for a sewer connection after years of foul-water problems

Residents of La Camella have called for a solution for several homes that, according to them, still depend on septic systems, and report recurring wastewater overflows. The residents are asking to be effectively connected to the sewer network.

CJEU finds further breaches of the EU Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive affecting Tenerife

The Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that Spain had failed to fulfil several obligations under Directive 91/271/EEC in a number of agglomerations covered by case C-433/23, several of them located in Tenerife. The judgment concerns obligations linked to the collection, treatment and monitoring of urban waste water.

A European judgment records past failures and requires them to be corrected. It does not by itself state the situation at any beach on the day it is consulted.

Tender for works to treat Palm-Mar wastewater at the Montaña Reverón plant

ACUAES authorised the tender documents for a new pumping station and a pipeline of about 4.5 kilometres. The works connect Palm-Mar to the sanitation system instead of keeping its current discharge.

New EU court action includes numerous Tenerife wastewater agglomerations

A new action brought by the European Commission before the Court of Justice covers numerous agglomerations in Tenerife for possible failures to meet obligations on the collection and treatment of urban waste water. The agglomerations cited include Buenavista del Norte, El Sauzal, Garachico-La Caleta, Icod de los Vinos, La Matanza, La Victoria, Las Galletas-Las Rosas, Radazul, San Miguel, Tabaiba, Tamaimo and Valle San Lorenzo.

The list of agglomerations cited is not necessarily complete. A pending procedure does not by itself mean a beach is closed or that a specific point is currently polluted.

European Commission refers Spain to the CJEU over wastewater failures affecting Tenerife

The European Commission took Spain to the Court of Justice of the European Union over failures to comply with Directive 91/271/EEC on urban waste water treatment. The case covers several agglomerations in Tenerife, among them Adeje-Arona, Añaza, Candelaria, Golf del Sur, Guía de Isora Litoral, La Esperanza-La Laguna Sur-Santa Cruz-Valles, Puerto de Santiago-Playa la Arena, San Isidro-Litoral, Sueño Azul and Valle de la Orotava.

An infringement procedure is brought against Spain and describes unfulfilled obligations at agglomeration level, not the water quality at a beach on a given day. The required works and connections fall to different administrations.
