Garachico rebuilds La Caleta de Interián wall to protect a sewer

According to information reported by El Día, Ayuntamiento de Garachico is allocating €340,000 to emergency works to rebuild the wall and protect the sewer exposed after Storm Therese, with a bypass to prevent discharges into the sea. Mayor Heriberto González says the works are in their final phase and announces that the promenade will reopen in three weeks.

Sanitation improvement works in La Caleta de Interián

A new 406.84-metre sewer collector under the Humboldt and Joaniquín promenades, replacing a pipe that encroached on the coastal public domain. The total budget was €1,606,761.90 and the seafront promenade reopened on completion.

New EU court action includes numerous Tenerife wastewater agglomerations

A new action brought by the European Commission before the Court of Justice covers numerous agglomerations in Tenerife for possible failures to meet obligations on the collection and treatment of urban waste water. The agglomerations cited include Buenavista del Norte, El Sauzal, Garachico-La Caleta, Icod de los Vinos, La Matanza, La Victoria, Las Galletas-Las Rosas, Radazul, San Miguel, Tabaiba, Tamaimo and Valle San Lorenzo.

The list of agglomerations cited is not necessarily complete. A pending procedure does not by itself mean a beach is closed or that a specific point is currently polluted.
