See all actions200 tonnes of wet wipes removed from the sewer network in southern Tenerife
Entemanser has removed around 200 tonnes of wet wipes and other waste from the 34 wastewater pumping stations it operates in Adeje, Guía de Isora and Granadilla de Abona during 2026. The work has required more than 6,500 hours. A build-up of this waste can reduce pump efficiency, cause blockages and, in serious cases, contribute to sewage overflows or discharges.

Solar power installation completed at the Adeje–Arona wastewater treatment plant
A photovoltaic self-consumption installation at the Adeje–Arona wastewater treatment plant was completed in May 2026. The project had an awarded value of approximately €442,980 and reduces the external electricity demand of the wastewater treatment infrastructure.
The installation supports wastewater treatment infrastructure but does not by itself imply a change in bathing water quality.

New five-year operation and investment programme for the Adeje–Arona wastewater system

CJEU finds further breaches of the EU Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive affecting Tenerife
The Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that Spain had failed to fulfil several obligations under Directive 91/271/EEC in a number of agglomerations covered by case C-433/23, several of them located in Tenerife. The judgment concerns obligations linked to the collection, treatment and monitoring of urban waste water.
A European judgment records past failures and requires them to be corrected. It does not by itself state the situation at any beach on the day it is consulted.

Emergency repair of the Adeje–Arona impulsion pipe

Relocation of the Playa de Troya wastewater pumping station
The Adeje–Arona sanitation project provides for replacing the existing Metrópolis wastewater pumping station near the Playa de Troya seafront with a new installation farther inland. The project also includes new wastewater transport infrastructure associated with the pumping system. The project budget is approximately €1.91 million.
The project concerns wastewater collection and pumping infrastructure near Playa de Troya. It does not mean that bathing water at the beach is currently contaminated.

Improvement of the Adeje–Arona submarine outfall
The Island Council began remodelling and extending the Adeje–Arona submarine outfall, with an investment of over 4 million euros. The works extend the pipeline by about 200 metres and place the discharge point roughly 1,100 metres from the coast at more than 40 metres depth. This infrastructure is associated with the discharge from the Adeje–Arona desalination system; it is not an untreated sewage outfall.

European Commission refers Spain to the CJEU over wastewater failures affecting Tenerife
The European Commission took Spain to the Court of Justice of the European Union over failures to comply with Directive 91/271/EEC on urban waste water treatment. The case covers several agglomerations in Tenerife, among them Adeje-Arona, Añaza, Candelaria, Golf del Sur, Guía de Isora Litoral, La Esperanza-La Laguna Sur-Santa Cruz-Valles, Puerto de Santiago-Playa la Arena, San Isidro-Litoral, Sueño Azul and Valle de la Orotava.
An infringement procedure is brought against Spain and describes unfulfilled obligations at agglomeration level, not the water quality at a beach on a given day. The required works and connections fall to different administrations.

Western Adeje wastewater infrastructure planned for connection to the Adeje–Arona treatment system
Official infrastructure planning included new pumping and transport works intended to improve the transfer of wastewater from western Adeje towards the regional Adeje–Arona treatment system. The programme includes infrastructure affecting areas such as Sueño Azul, Playa Paraíso and Callao Salvaje. Documented measures include new or upgraded wastewater pumping infrastructure and pressure pipelines designed to improve wastewater transport within the regional sanitation network.
