On 14 October 2026 Los Realejos Town Council published the tender for the sewer and pumping network in Realejo Alto, with a base budget of €1,665,663.54 and a 16-month execution period. The works are co-funded by the Cabildo de Tenerife (80%) and the council (20%). No link to any beach has been established.

Joint sanitation coordination group proposed for the Valle de La Orotava
Asamblea Ciudadana Portuense has proposed creating a joint sanitation coordination group involving Puerto de la Cruz, La Orotava, Los Realejos and Santa Úrsula to coordinate assessments, needs and actions related to the regional wastewater system.
The proposal calls for stronger coordination between municipalities and closer monitoring of sanitation infrastructure and water quality. It is a civil society initiative and has not been approved as an official government programme.

More than 45,000 euros in fines for sea discharges in Puerto de la Cruz
A May 2025 report compiled the sanction proceedings opened by the Canary Islands Agency for the Protection of the Natural Environment against Puerto de la Cruz Town Council for discharges to the sea, then totalling around EUR 45,000 in acknowledged fines, including proceedings over the overflow outlets at Playa Jardín, Playa Chica and El Caletón, plus earlier sanctions from 2018 and 2022. The Tenerife Island Water Council was also sanctioned. The report traces the origin of the problem to the break in the Valle de La Orotava district treatment plant outfall since July 2020 and notes that the municipality's main beaches remained closed for close to a year. It is recorded as context and accountability reporting; it creates no new scored incident.

Regenerated water from the Valle de La Orotava plant for the La Cruz Santa reservoir
Works at the Valle de La Orotava treatment plant in Punta Brava will allow up to 6,600 cubic metres per day of regenerated water to be supplied to the La Cruz Santa reservoir for agricultural irrigation in Los Realejos and the Valle de La Orotava. Phase 1 already uses membrane bioreactor (MBR) secondary treatment, and phase 2, under way, adds reverse electrodialysis tertiary treatment. Balten is building the connecting pipeline between the plant and the reservoir; pumping was expected to start in June 2025.

Valle de La Orotava wastewater system designed to substantially increase treatment capacity
